ITS MY BEST OF 2011 LIST!!!
Oh, man— this list is going to change the world.
The list is bookended by Bon Iver, which makes sense because I bet the number of days in 2011 I listened to Bon Iver outnumbered the days I didn’t. (The final song has my favorite lyrics of the year hidden in it.) I cut a lot of great songs to hit the 20 mark. (which is retarded because I made the mark up myself, I could have made it 25, or 40)  A lot of people/blogs/shit-faces are saying 2011 wasn’t as great as 2010 in music. And I guess, I agree. There weren’t as many stand out albums that were mind blowing; but looking back at the list I am happy. Lets get to it:

You can stop holding your breath, I finally made my best of 2010 list. Just in time for no one to give a shit. I mean by-goly, its twenty-eleven already. Lots of great songs got tossed aside in a “its not you its me” manner. But some guilty pleasures still made the cut. (Bruno Mars) The songs aren’t listed in any particular order, just a general flow. I hope you enjoy.

Rue Royale - Parachutes and Lifeboats

This song wasn’t written about LOST. That being said, it sure as hell sounds like it. It comes from one of my favorite singer/songwriter bands Rue Royale. After watching the finale tonight and having a long drive home on the open freeway, this happen to come on (somewhat) randomly. Maybe it was my destiny?

The finale was great. I realized I didn’t care about the island; I cared about the people. Glad I got to wave them off. (Except for 50% of people who weren’t in the church. Was hoping for a last minute Echo cameo…)

Yeasayer/Sleigh Bells at the Fillmore

Last night at the historic Fillmore I saw Sleigh Bells and Yeasayer in one night! had a great time— show was amazing. Probably even more amazing because of my second hand high from everyone in the crowd smoking. Little Hiroshimas of weed sprouted out from the crowd into the heavens.

Sleigh Bells: Sounded great, but the performance was kinda boring. The only recordings to their name are a demo— they’re a young band. I thought they should have hired a tour band to go along with them because just the two of them (along with 70% of the rest of the music that was prerecorded) on stage seemed like it was karaoke. But don’t worry the chick was running around the stage trying to make up for it. Maybe “flailing” is a better term to use? Oh yeah, she had a propensity to scream into the mic without warning. Thanks for that. Crown on the Ground is the stand out track, live or recorded.

Yeasayer: Put on a fantastic show. Sounded great and was fun to watch. At first they seemed pretentious, but as they night went on they got more and more fun. Tunes sounded so good, it made the crowd dance along with the melody.
